Sometimes the hardest part of staying in this practice is to have nerves of steel and not allow yourself to become unproductive.
Blank page intimidation can be as dangerous as when one discovers they have a leak... the water begins to seep in and destroy the integrity of the structure soon to rush toward the foundation and threaten stability. So on a particularly trying week of failing efforts, I opened the sketchbook to the dreaded "blank page" not having a clue what to do.
Inside the cover of my sketchbook I had collaged images of other people's artworks that I found unusual or intriguing. That day the previous efforts became appreciated when I chose one of the images to inspire me to model my own hand and just draw it. Then I thought to answer the question "Why?" and finished the page with a conceptual narrative... "The Delicate Balance." If nothing else it got me through the page, keeping me consistent in my practice.
