sketch-banjo and fiddle @Pikes |
Last week I went to the city to see some artwork... and make some. I was finishing "the Spinster" drawing (see previous entry) but since the museum was open late, I decided to invest some time doing some quick sketch at Pikes Market. I have always wanted to work down there so finally "walked the walk" and took my sketchbook knowing that"Well... at least there are the fish tossers" but that place has become so commercial.
So just beyond was a gal in her 20s belting out a song with her guitar and that is where I began. Afterwards I had thought to stroll along flower row or the vegetable area knowing I would be inspired and "oops there's another musician, a man and his clarinet."

Then came the guitarist in post alley, a gospel quartet+1 lead, a drummer with a rapper... 2 hours later I ended up with maybe half a dozen quick sketches of just street performers in the market area, heard some fun music and was all warmed up by the time I got to the museum. It was a good day!
