Week #11: The Traveling Artist

Many people feel that drawing on a regular basis means to commit oneself to locking themselves away in the studio or chaining themselves to the drafting table every day for an hour with a sketchbook. While agreeing upon the investment of time, I find that the hours fly by (and fills "down time") when the sketchbook simply accompanies me wherever I go. Like putting on shoes or carrying glasses, I carry everywhere (at the least) a 6x9 sketchbook that has a pocket to hold a mechanical pencil so it never need sharpening. I am fascinated (and challenged) to see what I can find as the collection of images and pages fill with ease.
This week took me to a car museum for a friend's birthday outing where I had the opportunity to better appreciate an "Oakland" from the upstairs cafe during a rest break while friends chat and later a "Reo Speedwagon"... which made for a really "good Friday". The ironic thing was Bob Segar was to be performing in concert later that night... from Detroit, the car capital of the nation.
