I find that when I take my sketchbook with me and am working outdoors in city scapes I am facinated with the street lamps. They make great sketchbook studies and often vary from town to town. When I find something so "every day" like this that happens to peak my interest or reoccur in my work frequently, I consider the possiblitity of working in series where I can explore the varieties of such beauty and push myself to see and express the reasoning for paying attention to such simplicity... afterall it is the artist's job (as Hawthorn would say) to bring to light the beauty from the ordinary.
