Challenge #2: "The Ties that Bind".

"The ties that bind" 12 x 12 ink on bristol board.
In this challenge my guidelines were to create a drawing on 12" x 12" Bristol board with a collection that somehow found a way to connect. Around my drafting table I have a collection of art jazz to entertain or inspire... depending upon how the work is going. I have plaster casts, action figures, movable manikins... and a short string of Halloween lights woven in and between that which fills the shelf above the table. So I divided the page into geometric cells to narrate a short comic strip since most of the "jazz" has such personality. Reading from left to right I rendered the items, as they were on the shelf, by the one light source of my drafting table. My intent was in connecting to the next item by that string of lights as well as a possible imaginative interaction between the items. My specifics were to draw each item as the main character for one cell with its previous cell item as a secondary importance in technique as well as narration. It took some time to sketch then ink and color the cells but it was a good challenge to constrain the parameters and resolve the narrative by the end of the page.
