I like to draw from life and having a model is the best but often time the only willing victim I can subject to the torture is a pet. While the 4 leggeds are all nap based and only twist, stretch or eventually leave after (if I'm lucky) after 10 minutes, the birds tend to be a little more flighty- pun appropriate. I believe it has to do with their instinctual nature of having the mentality of prey when started at with great intent. So in drawing the cockatoo, I snatch quick frequent glances on a cloudy day after it has had a long day out and is nestling down for a nap. Still it fluffs it's head feathers to appear a little larger and keeps one eye on me while I work.
