sketch#1... charcoal |
This weekend I sketched at the Summer Arts Festival beneath the demo tent. Theme appropriate, I choose to bring my comedy & tragedy masks to work from. The joke was on me as tragedy got stage fright and flew off the stand (in a gust of wind) while I was on a break. And it was a tragedy to discover, when I returned, that it had broken on the back of the mask.
Taking clamp to mask straps, I simply secured the shy guy to the stage (step ladder)

and tried a new drawing... new mask, new medium. By now the sun was in full force and moving rather swiftly so I chose to keep my studies brief and... sketchy as not to chase the light. The results turned out to be a fun afternoon spent chatting with the community about art while I collected different views of the masks from various angles and in dramatically (pun intended) differing light.
